Colonic Hydrotherapy

Colonic Hydrotherapy - Overview

Anyone with a history of consuming a Western diet or one containing many refined or processed foods can benefit from colon cleansing and colonic hydrotherapy. The importance of the direct relationship between colon health and general health cannot be overemphasized. A colonic treatment lasts between 45 and 60 minutes; new patients may take a little longer. We have both a male and a female therapist. Patient modesty is always preserved. Filtered water is fed into the colon under extremely low pressure (far lower than is typically seen during normal defecation) ensuring there is no discomfort and, importantly, no danger of bowel perforation. In combination with massage techniques, the water helps to
soften and detach faecal matter and encrusted deposits, which are piped away with the water

The removal of bacteria from the colon also presents no problem as these propagate back to normal levels within a few days. In fact by removing old encrusted faecal material and mucoid plaque which are food sources for unfriendly bacteria, colonic's actually enhance the spread of friendly bacteria in the bowel. Colonic's are not habit forming, unlike chemical or natural laxatives. Colonic's do not lead to a lazy catatonic bowel, but in fact help to improve bowel muscle tone and normalise its size and capacity

Colonic Irrigation

Colonic Hydrotherapy can be used to combat a number of ailments from constipation and IBS to even acne ,fatigue and headaches, because the treatment will flush out the build up of toxins in our bodies which are accumulated as a result of our diets and even the environment in which we live. Colonic is the infusion of specially filtered water into the rectum by a colon therapist to cleanse and flush out the colon It is also called colon irrigation.

The colon therapist inserts a disposable speculum into the anus. The speculum is connected to a long disposable plastic hose connected to the colon hydrotherapy unit. Warm, filtered water is slowly released into the colon. The water causes the muscles of the colon to contract, called peristalsis. Peristalsis "pushes" faeces out through the hose to be disposed in a closed waste system. The client and the colon therapist do not smell the faeces. The therapist usually looks at the faeces through the clear hose, and may comment on the colour. The client typically feels some discomfort in the abdomen during the therapy. The colon therapist may apply light massage to the client's abdominal area to facilitate the process. After the session, the therapist leaves the room, and the client may sit on a toilet to pass any residual water and stools.

A typical session lasts 45 minutes to one hour.
